Above the Fold

Above the Fold! An old school term that refers to a story being printed in the most visible, eye catching space in the newspaper - literally above the cover fold.

One of the beautiful parts of achieving this very desirable spot in two recent local articles, is back in the day I was a newspaper reporter myself :) A real ode to my roots !

As TomandChickpea celebrates 5 years of being in a brick and mortar building, I have so enjoyed remembering all the steps, stages, hard work and people that have paved the path to this point.

Reaching this milestone is no easy feat and never guaranteed. I have learned So much along the way- about myself, about running a business, about time management and multi tasking, and maybe most importantly, about my community.

The people who walk through the shop door are some of the kindest, most generous, artistic and interesting people I never could have anticipated meeting. I have learned that initiating conversations has brought me so many laughs, insight, and compassion. I have hugged, cried, talked all things cheese and houseplants with so many people and it makes me look forward to each day I get the good fortune to stand inside the most unique shop in Derry :) Unique in ways that extend beyond what is available for purchase.

With the integral help and support from Sue Carner who owns My Father’s Footsteps, located within the shop, we have created an ambiance that is all embracing. A space where you feel heard, appreciated and always welcome.

My curly haired Schnoodle Leon plays a big part in this too ! His little underbite puts a smile on Everyone’s face.

In all seriousness, I have on my life to do list to write a book about how this little, impulsive idea in my head has turned in to the small oasis known as TomandChickpea. I should name the book

Above the Fold ;)

If you’re reading this, please come visit the shop! I have a beautiful canvas started that I am asking everyone to sign so I can have a tangible way to celebrate and acknowledge every one of you who has made this anniversary possible.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Xoxo -Lori
